Every winter hundreds of photographers gather at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico to photograph the migration of the sandhill cranes. The Cranes spend the night sleeping on the water to protect themselves from coyote attack. As if a bell goes off they seem to all take off at once shortly after sunrise. I recall this morning in December 2013 it was 26 degrees.
