red eared slider

The red eared slider is the most popular turtle sold as a pet. They get their name from the small red stripe around the ears.  The slider in their name comes from the ability to quickly slide off of rocks into the water.  It is native to Mexico and the Southern United States but can be found worldwide due to pet releases.  The red eared slider is included in the list of the world's most 100 invasive species.

This photo was taken at the Pool in Central Park.  The algae is so thick that the turtle is almost completely camouflaged except for that distinguished red ear.

Very Interesting. Is this the way he is keeping cool?

Nice capture. That green stuff gets to be really oppresive after awhile. I wonder if the turtles feel the same way.

This seems to be one of the largest red eared sliders I have ever seen. Excellent capture. Especially with all the green stuff over the place.
