Many photographers shoot early in the morning or late in the evening during what is known as "The Golden Hour." This is not an hour but a few minutes as the sun rises or sets when daylight is redder and softer than when the Sun is higher in the sky. But there is also a time called "The Blue Hour." Again only a few minutes when the sun is at a significant depth below the horizon and when the residual, indirect sunlight takes on a predominantly blue shade. This picture, shot early in the morning, comes from the "Out of Chicago" workshop at Acadia National Park in Maine. It looks deserted but I carefully positioned the camera to eliminate the dozens of other photographers with me.
