Fall Colors

Fall colors at Forked Lake in the New York Adirondacks.  This photo was taken during a workshop with Tom Dwyer Photography.  Forked Lake is a part of Adirondack Park.

The Adirondack Park is a part of New York's Forest Preserve in northeastern New York. The park's boundary corresponds with the Adirondack Mountains. Established in 1885, it was the first state preserve of its type in the nation. Unlike most preserves, about 52 percent of the land is privately owned inholdings heavily regulated by the Adirondack Park Agency. This area contains 102 towns and villages, as well as numerous farms, businesses, and an active timber harvesting industry. The year-round population is 132,000, with 200,000 seasonal residents. The inclusion of human communities makes the park one of the great experiments in conservation in the industrialized world. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1963.  The park's 6.1 million acres include more than 10,000 lakes, 30,000 miles of rivers and streams, and a wide variety of habitats including wetlands and old-growth forests.

Focused on decay with the reflective tree trunk is the nostalgia of the ending of the summer and the colorful reflective forest on both sides of the river celebrate a new beginning of the Fall season. The forest, the trunk of the tree are related to each other. The spaces are filled with reflecting objects with the fall like clouds. The photo have a wonderful unity.

Agree with all that others have said - and always amazed how well you do with that Tamron do-it-all lens. You manage to produce images that belie the old saw about the "compromises" that such lenses make.

There are a lot of things to like about this photograph, Harvey, composition, color, detail, etc. But what I like most is that you saw this subject on an otherwise drab and dreary evening (evidence the thick gray clouds) and decided what you wanted the photo to be about . . . and that was everything that we all appreciate about autumn. I love the foreground subject that leads my eye into the photograph, to an appreciation of autumn in the distant colors. Great job my friend.
