Sandhill Crane

A Sandhill Crane, at Bosque Del Apache in New Mexico, taking off in the early morning.  The cranes sleep overnight on the water to avoid the predator coyotes.  Notice the ice around his left leg.  He had to break through the frozen lake around his feet. The temperature was around 16 degrees fahrenheit.

Spectacular shot, Harvey! At that temperature I would have been inside the nearest inn sipping something warm. Kudos to you for braving the elements and nailing the shot.
